ENTERING INTO THE SAVING STREAM OF LOVE

In the Letter to the Romans, St. Paul explains the relationship between Jesus, dead and risen, and those of us who are baptised into him. It is not that we become followers of a doctrine or adherents of a morality. It is that Jesus unites us to Him in such a way that what happens to Him happens to us. It is a personal, new and profound relationship.

To welcome Easter is not that a man, by his death, has appeased the wrath of an offended God. It is rather that God, in His love, has taken the initiative to reconcile us to Himself at whatever cost, even going through with love what few have known how to face: suffering and death. In this way Jesus shows us his feelings, he reveals to us what God is really like, he shows us his mercy; he makes every effort to seek out the poor, the excluded, the sinners, who are God’s favourites, and to identify with them. It is a matter of welcoming love into one’s life.
