SAINT PETER AND SAINT PAUL

Peter, the passionate friend of Jesus, the man chosen by Christ to be the “rock” of the Church: “You are Peter, and on this rock I will build my Church” (Mt 16:16). His passion was his fragility, and after living as a sinner, he recognised that it was not in his strength and enthusiasm that the key to the mission lay, but in accepting God’s love with simplicity. This led him to humbly accept his mission until the end, until his death as a martyr. With him, we can hear Jesus asking us, “Do you love me?

Paul, the persecutor of Christians who became the Apostle to the Gentiles, was able to redirect his strength and ardour in a new direction. And he experienced that His grace was sufficient for him. Paul became a model of an ardent evangeliser for all Catholics because after meeting Jesus on his way, he gave himself unreservedly to the cause of the Gospel.
