EL PROGRESO (HONDURAS)
God manifests himself through history and walks with us today.
I belong to the team of the Educational Pastoral of the Santa Elizabeth Technological Institute of El Progreso, Yoro, Honduras. Given the novelty of COVID 19, it has been one of the greatest challenges for me, to be able to guide the adolescents and young people of our institution in faith through the different activities scheduled in this year 2021.
The world of virtuality is one of the great media where the Grace of God continues to act on specific faces. We have not been able to be in person with our students, but I see them and dialogue with them every day. Through the camera, I can perceive, feel, see and experience the close face of God in the processes of each young person.
It has been a very fruitful experience for me, to be able to look for the ways and means of how I am going to make God known in these times and before this virtual medium.
Tell them that this God will not let me be still and close my arms to wait.
We have carried out the first activities of the Educational Pastoral through the virtual camera, and we have been:
- promoting the Gospel with the Eucharistic celebrations so comforting for the students and their parents
- reflected together with them the time of Lent, we had times of prayer and penitential acts,
- recognizing our fragility with the desire to improve those attitudes that distance us from God,
- reflect and meditate on the Lord’s passion through the recitation of the Stations of the Cross and we practice works of mercy from daily life.
The most surprising thing was that many high school students decided to practice the works of mercy going down to the Street. With the greatest precaution, some organized “feeding the hungry”, bringing food and cooking to share in a shelter, others dressed the naked “. Wearing clothes those families who, in the face of hurricane ETA and IOTA, lost all their property when their homes were flooded. Others brought a financial contribution so that they could purchase items or products for their immediate needs.
The Lord of life filled me with joy and hope when they shared their experiences with me and I cried with emotion when I saw the videos that they created with the activity carried out. Our young people were able to meet the reality of these poor and vulnerable families. That joy was for me a springboard to live the Easter of the Resurrection and to be able to communicate to them that Christ has risen.
Virtual devices have become at this time one of the means where you can communicate and cultivate the encounter with the God of life and history, He God Savior and Liberator, He God who uses all means to tell us in the person of her Son Jesus “I am with you always, until the end of the world” (Mt 28,20).
