WEEK OF PRAYER FOR THE UNITY OF CHRISTIANS
Eight days that, like Rosario beads, lead us to pray with the Word, reflect on the great injustices in our world and commit ourselves to change.
- • Day 1: Learn to do good
- • Day 2: When justice is done…
- • Day 3: Do justice, love mercy, walk humbly
- • Day 4: When justice is done…
- • Day 5: Songs of Zion in a strange land
- • Day 6: What you did with one of these my little ones… you did it to me
- • Day 7: What is so now does not have to continue to be so
- • Day 8: Justice restores communion
As the great Christian family that we are, there is an invitation to walk, not only towards the recognition of the other denominations in the house – ecumenism -, but also towards the answer for which the world cries out. Indeed, the bishops point out that “the text of Isaiah makes us understand that the experience of faith must always be accompanied by a praxis consistent with what is professed.”
This year’s motto, taken from the prophet Isaiah: “Do good; seek justice» (cf. Is 1,17) has been chosen by the Council of Churches of Minnesota (USA). These Churches have had to face throughout their history the internal division caused by racial segregation and, recently, the world was shocked by the extrajudicial execution of the young African-American George Floyd on May 25, 2020. «This unjust and shameful that provoked a strong social reaction – the bishops point out – also appeals to the conscience of Christians and encourages us to work together to be a source of unity and reconciliation in the world.
