“The experience of illness makes us feel our own vulnerability and, at the same time, the innate need of the other. Our creatureliness becomes even sharper and we clearly experience our dependence on God. Uncertainty, fear, and sometimes dismay take over the mind and heart. We find ourselves in a situation of helplessness, because our health does not depend on our abilities or on our “distress” (cf. Mt 6,27).
The disease imposes a question about the meaning, which in faith is directed to God; a question that seeks a new meaning and a new direction for existence, and that sometimes it may not find an immediate answer. “
Accompanying with listening and caring, with prayer and silences, undoubtedly helps in this path of redirection.
